Spring Market Spruce Up! - Ceiling Painting

Paint it pink, or black. Heck, even wallpaper it. Just ditch the white for a more personal touch.

There’s no rule that says you have to paint your ceilings white. You’d never know that from looking at most ceilings, though, because they’re nearly all the same shade of neglected nothing. Here’s why you should write your own color rules.
A Colorful Ceiling Works Great With Wallpaper

This boho fab wallpaper would be far less fab without the sizzling pink ceiling that repeats the pink in the ikat pattern. One shot of hot pink makes the room pop. Two shots of hot pink make the room snap crackle pop.
Dark Ceilings Make A Room More Intimate

A ceiling painted dark gray, black, navy, or purple makes a room feel cozy and warm. For best results, pick a room with lots of natural light, and add lighter colored furnishings and trim to balance the ceiling.
Striped Ceilings Bring on the Drama

Nothing says “This is my house and I’ll make it look however I want to” like striped ceilings. If painting stripes on a ceiling is above your pay grade, put striped wallpaper on it instead. It’s easier.
Pastels Overhead Bring Peace To Bedrooms
Cool, pale blue or green calms your mind and lowers your blood pressure, psychologists say. So what better color for the room where you go to relax?
A Bright Ceiling Can Make Your Room Glow

A colorful ceiling is like a reflector that bounces light into the room, making it radiate. It changes the whole mood of the space. Use an eggshell, satin, or metallic paint instead of the usual flat finish to give the ceiling a shimmer.
You Can Have Your Own Starry Sky

Paint stars (or use decals) on your bedroom ceiling and you’ll be able to star-gaze every night, mosquito-free. Bonus points if you install a light fixture that looks like a droid.
You Can Make Your Own Sistine Chapel

It took Michelangelo four years and several fights with the Pope to finish his ceiling, but you can do yours over a weekend, with stencils. TIP: Practice first with a piece of cardboard, remembering that less paint (and at least two thin coats) is the way to go when painting overhead.
